Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you for writing for me! I'm very much looking forward to reading what you write :)

Likes in general: more than anything I tend to like focusing in on canon closely; missing scenes or post-canon scenes or point-of-divergence AUs over setting AUs. (By 'canon' here I really mean canon characters, but I think the world they're in often pretty heavily informs those characters and is an important part of them.) I love poetry, if you want to do poetry I'd love to receive it! I'm also happy if you want to do something weird formally; knock your heart out. I like mysteries and bittersweet endings and, hmmm, genuine relationships between people, and people who actually have to live in and deal with an imperfect world.

DNWs: In general, no noncon or serious threats thereof (with some canon-specific modulation, I'm not asking that you not refer to previous noncon threats in Spinning Silver, e.g.), addiction narratives, setting AUs, character bashing, or breaking up canon relationships. I've got more specific details under each canon section!

I do want to note that I'm not DNW-ing character death: if you want to kill a character you're welcome to do so if that's what you think the story needs.

Spinning Silver

Characters: Miryem, Irina, Mirnatius

I picked the characters for this one but honestly I'd be happy for scenarios involving any two of them, or for that matter any one of them and Wanda! Honestly I can't actually imagine how you'd get a fic centering on Wanda and Mirnatius but if you want to do something with it I'm 100% there. I'd love to see how Irina and Mirnatius' relationship develops immediately post-canon; Magreta's not a nominated character but if you wanted to do something from her perspective I'd love that too! I'd also love to see missing scenes in canon (or another POV on scenes we do see happen) or Irina and Miryem talking again post-canon, or a scene focusing on Miryem and Wanda post-canon... If you do want to write a fic focusing on Miryem and Irina and Mirnatius that would also be fascinating and I'm 100% here for it!! Basically anything looking at the characters.

DNWs: in addition to the general DNWs I'm adding explicit sex for this fandom! And when it comes to the noncon and threats of noncon I want to add some nuance for this fandom: noncon/threats of noncon is a basic background fact in this world, and also feature pretty heavily in the background of like every character. I don't want new noncon or serious threats of noncon happening to the main characters; but it can happen to side characters if that's necessary for the story, and I'm not expecting the characters' in-universe approach to/understanding of consent to change so if you need to have, I don't know, someone tell Irina that it's not so bad if you just lie down and let him get it over with that kind of thing is fine too.

Think of England

Characters: Archie, Daniel

I think Archie and Daniel are my favourite of KJ Charles's couples; I love Daniel's surprise at and appreciation for Archie's appreciation of poetry, Daniel's horror of violence, Archie's tendency towards it, Daniel's bravery, Archie's desire to do the right thing, Archie's trust in Daniel, etc. I'd love any kind of post-canon fic for these two: casefic, they're out having a lovely picnic, they're dealing with nasty rumours and gossip, they're shuffling about together in their old age. Whatever you like! Just go for it :D

DNWs: I don't have anything special here! Just my general DNWs

Eagle of the Ninth

Characters: Marcus, Esca

I really like their relationship and I would love to see more of it. I love the ease and the depth of their connection. Once again I'm suggesting a picnic (I'm always suggesting characters having picnics!)—well, probably them eating out in the woods on a journey given the circumstances—, or actually this is something where I really would love to see them twenty, thirty years down the road. (I'm not sure how you'd work this in but I absolutely loved Marcus doing his the Demetrius of Alexandria routine and if you wanted to include that I'd love it.) I'd be happy if you wanted to include Cottia or Cub or Uncle Aquila or really any of the other characters, but if you just want Marcus and Esca I'll be happy too 🙂 I'll add that I appreciate that Marcus is disabled and I'd appreciate it if the fic remembers that too.

DNW: I DNW'd movie narrative and characterization—obviously this is very subjective and it's not like there's no overlap! But I do think there's a fairly significant difference between them, and I'm just asking for a good-faith effort that it come from the novel rather than the movie. Basically I requested the novel and I do want novel fic!

The Fall of Ile-Rien

Characters: Ilias and Tremaine

ILIAS AND TREMAINE. God I love them—Tremaine is probably one of my favourite characters in, honestly, anything. Here's something where I:d really love post-canon shenanigans, Ilias and Tremaine having to once more deal with something together; or I'd love to see them travelling together across more of the world. If you wanted to do something during canon, I'd love to see even more of Ilias' view of his relationship with Tremaine. If you want to include Giliead in there too (in whatever capacity, ahem) I'd be very happy to see him too, but I'd also be happy to just focus on Ilias and Tremaine.

DNWs: Just my regular DNWs, nothing special!

Thank you again for writing for me 😃

comments

"The white stag. To...show our appreciation of him as our host."

"That seems very foolish."

Temeraire sniffed. "I would not want people to think my host did not have enough things, or sufficiently fine ones."

"Oh, very well," grumbled Iskierka, sounding disgruntled in her turn. "I suppose you are right. I will have to join you."

"No you will not!"

"I will; you are right; there is nothing else for it."

Or: Temeraire and Iskierka discover (something adjacent to) the true meaning of Christmas.

So I wrote this fic! It is not, to my knowledge, even slightly historically accurate--or at least, I made no attempts to have it so--but I did try to make it funny and in-character, and that seems to have largely gone through :)

One of these days maybe I'll manage to write more than one fic for Yuletide...but so far (close to the time limit though I've been) both of my recipients have enjoyed their gifts, so for now I think I'll call it a win.

comments

Thank you for offering one of these fandoms! I hope you have fun with it :)

My general likes:
-Fealty/loyalty stuff, in general. I love stories where characters are fundamentally loyal to someone who returns that loyalty...in a few different ways. For example, I love stories where loyalty conflicts with honour, with doing the right thing--even though the person you're loyal to isn't false to you, going against them is still what's right. However that conflict turns out, I am all over it in a story <3 Or conversely, the sheer joy of finding someone to be loyal to who won't ask you to do something wrong.
-Fantasy AUs, both of the full-blown there are lords and ladies and mages variety, and of the 'it's canon, but canon now involves magic' variety.
-Mysteries!
-Bittersweet endings--even when the endings are more bitter than sweet. But /not/ endings where the suffering is made meaningless.

My general dislikes:
-Endings where the suffering the character(s) undergo is made meaningless :P
-Character bashing.
-Addiction narratives
-Mundane AUs

Mulan

Characters: Fa Mulan, Li Shang

Girl Genius

Characters: Agatha, Klaus, Tarvek, Gil

Temeraire

Characters: Laurence, Napoleon

Queen's Thief

Characters: Eugenides

Thank you again for writing for me :) Have a great Yuletide!

comments
