for me personally it's not quite that i want something slower-paced than tumblr/twitter (although i do - i hate wasting all that time, caught in the trap of refreshing and refreshing) but i really missed "LJ people". i can't have a real discussion with the average tumblr or twitter person because they get so easily angry and they feel really entitled and "special" and don't listen to anything. i personally am a disabled GLBT immigrant and stuff like that and yet, if it's to a tumblr person who's complaining about how being an immigrant is so tough where they've moved to etc, despite that it's exactly the same where i am (and probably every country in the world), they can't accept it if i say something to them about it because "you're not in the 100% exact same situation as me!!". i even get stuff like "well you won't be able to have your special diet when you move here because it'll be soo expensive, that's why /i/ can't eat healthy like you do!" and it's like, uh, the food i eat is actually tons cheaper where you live compared to where i live... or people misread everything i write because they're so angry that they're pushing their pre-conceptions onto my writing, despite claiming to be such kind and understanding individuals...
so that's why i gradually quit tumblr all except for a couple blogs i hardly update, have been trying to quit twitter (at least, the side of twitter with english-speakers) and come to dreamwidth instead. i really hope if enough tumblr people come here we can kinda convert them to the DW/LJ mindset too!
